CHENNAI: A 17-year-old Villupuram boy was arrested by the city police for allegedly issuing a hoax bomb threat to the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Friday, claiming a bomb has been placed in a metro train.

The boy, who has completed class 12, had used his brother's phone to dial CMRL's customer feedback number on Friday evening. An employee at the Koyambedu CMRL office intercepted the call and alerted the authorities, who alerted the police in turn.

All the metro trains were inspected by the police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and the call was declared a hoax.

The call was traced, and the boy was secured on Sunday. The police said that he would be produced before a juvenile justice board and that he is a first-time offender.
