CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday assured the people of Tamil Nadu that his government will uncover the truth behind the Karur stampede and promised to frame a standard operating procedure (SOP) that will not only guide the State but also serve as a model for the entire country in preventing such tragedies.
Stalin said the government was implementing all directions related to the incident as given by the High Court. “Everyone is shattered by the tragedy. I am deeply pained to see the tears of the families who lost their loved ones,” he said.
He added that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted as per the court’s order, will commence its probe. “As chief minister, I promise the people that the truth will be revealed and accountability fixed at every level,” he said.
Pointing out that Tamil Nadu has often been a forerunner in setting examples for the country, Stalin said the State will also show the way to prevent stampedes. The proposed SOP, he said, will be prepared in consultation with experts, political parties, activists, and the public. “This SOP will not only be a model for Tamil Nadu but a model for the nation,” he emphasised.
Appealing to political parties to rise above blame games, Stalin urged them to work together towards a long-term solution. “Every life is precious. All should join hands to protect lives and prevent such incidents in the State as well as across the country,” he said.
