    CHENNAI: The city airport has announced 206 special flights for the summer to manage the crowd for this year’s vacation.

    Summer vacation has begun, and the mercury is relentless in going up, and this has prompted people to travel to other states and countries. This has increased the footfall at the airport.

    Usually, the footfall would be around 50,000 but now, it has shot up to nearly 60,000/day. Officials believe it would increase further in the upcoming days.

    To manage the excess footfall during the summer, the AAI has increased the number of flights at the airport. As a part of the summer special initiative, 206 special flights, including 42 international flights, would be operated throughout the summer.

    Air India, which was operating 7 flights between Sri Lanka and Chennai per week, has increased its operations to 10. Spicejet is also about to start weekly 7 services between Chennai and Colombo. Alliance Air, which had suspended the services to Jaffna due to bad weather in winter, is now about to resume them in summer and operate on all 7 days of the week.

    Air India Express will increase its service to Kuwait from 5 flights to 7. For Muscat, it would be two per week, and for Dammam, there would now be three flights/week.

    Indigo Airlines is about to start a service to Kuwait on all 7 days. Oman Airways, which is already operating 11 services/week between Chennai-Muscat, has now increased to 14. Gulf Airways has increased operations between Chennai and Bahrain from 7 flights to 10. The US Bangla, which was operating three flights to Dhaka, is increasing its services to 11.

    Air India’s 12 flights to Bangalore will now become 23, and for Delhi, it has been increased to 77 flights. For Madurai, it would be 14 flights, and 49 to Mumbai. Air India Express will fly to Kochi 14 times/week, and fly to Guwahati and Hyderabad 21 times.

    Indigo Airlines has also increased flights to Thoothukudi, Tiruchy, Kochi, and Ahmedabad. SpiceJet has increased flights to Kochi, Hyderabad, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Pune, Sivaganga, and Shirdi.
