    Chennai Metro Rail inks pact to build 15 disabled-friendly metro stations

    An official release said that the contract worth Rs 13.50 lakh has been awarded to V-Shesh Learning Services to enhance station designs in line with India’s Harmonized Guidelines for Universal Accessibility.

    CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded a contract to review and refine the design for 15 Phase-2 Metro stations, and also to ensure they are fully accessible to all commuters, including persons with disabilities.

    An official release said that the contract worth Rs 13.50 lakh has been awarded to V-Shesh Learning Services to enhance station designs in line with India’s Harmonized Guidelines for Universal Accessibility.

    “To further enhance these designs and ensure seamless compliance, CMRL has partnered with V-Shesh Learning Services, a consultancy firm that’s known for its expertise in accessibility solutions. It has already conducted an access audit of 32 Metro stations from Phase 1, underscoring CMRL’s dedication to equitable and inclusive public transport for all,” the release said.

    The project will be completed within 180 days of the Letter of Acceptance issued on February 18. Rekha Prakash, CGM (P&D), CMRL, and P Rajasekharan, director and co-founder of V-Shesh Learning Services, signed the contract agreement.
