Green nod for Tidel parks in Madurai, Tiruchy; Dabur unit in Tindivanam
Construction will begin soon. Proposed projects to generate thousands of jobs. Manufacturing facility South India’s first plant in State
CHENNAI: CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) has granted environmental clearance for the construction of Tidel parks in Madurai and Tiruchirapalli, paving the way for the State government’s Tidel Park Limited to embark on the ambitious project.
The proposed Tidel parks will be the latest additions to TN’s burgeoning IT infrastructure, following in the footsteps of successful models in Chennai Taramani, Pattabiram, and Coimbatore.
Located near the Integrated Bus Terminus at Panjappur on the Tiruchirappalli-Madurai highway, the Tidel Park in Tiruchy will be spread over 14.16 acres, with a built-up area of 5.58 lakh square feet. It’s estimated to cost Rs 315 crore, and will feature a ground floor and six floors. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to provide employment to around 5,000 people.
Similarly, the Tidel Park in Madurai, situated near the Mattuthavani Bus Stand, will be built on a 9.97-acre plot, with a built-up area of 5.67 lakh square feet. The project, which is expected to cost Rs 289 crore, will have a ground floor and 12 floors. It’s expected to provide employment opportunities to around 5,500 people.
Earlier in December 2024, the Tidel Park Limited had submitted proposals for environmental clearance for both projects. Now that’s in place, construction work is expected to commence soon.
The SEIAA has also granted clearance to Dabur India for setting up a new consumer goods manufacturing facility – Dabur’s first such unit in South India. According to Dabur India, the facility will be set up in Sipcot Tindivanam, Villupuram district.
“This will be amongst Dabur’s most-modern and environment-friendly facilities with the capacity to manufacture a range of Dabur’s products for the South market,” said Dabur India. Spread over 1.36 lakh square feet at an estimated investment of Rs 400 crore, the facility is expected to generate employment for around 250 people, besides creating thousands of indirect job opportunities.
“Dabur plans to construct an energy-efficient building – in both construction and operations – while deploying the latest technology for effluent treatment. Dabur will also extend its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to the local community,” said Rahul Awasthi, global head of operations, Dabur India.
The plant will manufacture a diverse range of products, including honey, Odonil, Red, and rose water.
Notably, the environmental clearance is contingent upon Dabur’s adherence to various environmental and social conditions stipulated by the SEIAA. The company’s compliance with these norms will be closely monitored to ensure that the plant operates in an environmentally sustainable manner.
It may be recalled that in August 2024, an MoU was signed between Dabur India and the State government in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin.
