Body of Pakistani youth sent from Chennai amid rising tensions

The deceased had been undergoing treatment for a lung-related ailment at a private hospital in Aminjikarai, Chennai, after arriving on a medical visa two months ago.;

CHENNAI: Amid rising tensions in connection to the Pahalgam attack, the body of a Pakistani youth who died without responding to treatments in a city hospital was sent back to Pakistan via Sri Lanka on Monday night.

Two aides who accompanied the youth were also sent back to Pakistan via Abu Dhabi on the Etihad Airlines flight early morning on Monday.

In the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir in which 28 tourists were killed, the central government has ordered Pakistani citizens to return to their country immediately.

Against such a backdrop, the immigration officers during an investigation found Syed John (24) of Pakistan had visited Chennai for medical treatments.

Investigation revealed that he had been admitted to a private hospital in Aminjikarai for the past two months and he was accompanied by two of his family members.

While the officers were making arrangements to send Syed and his family back to Pakistan, he died in the hospital without responding to treatment.

Following that, Syed’s body was sent back on the Sri Lankan Airlines flight to Pakistan via Colombo at 9.30 pm on Monday. While the two family members were sent back to their country on Monday early morning.

The immigration officers are also investigating if any other Pakistani nationals were staying in the State.
