    CHENNAI: A total of 76,181 candidates from Tamil Nadu, out of the 1.35 lakh who appeared, made it to the qualified list of NEET-UG 2025, with six of them finding place in the top 100 ranks.

    TN topper S Soorya Narayanan came 27th with 99.99 percentile, followed by Abhineet Nagaraj at the 50th rank, GS Pugazhendhi at the 61st rank, K S Hruthik Vijaya Raja at 63rd, AJ Rakesh at 78th and G Prajan Srivari G at the 88th position.

    This was Soorya’s first attempt at NEET. The Tirunelveli native graduated from Pushpalata Vidhya Mandir this year as the school’s topper, securing 495 out of 500 marks.

    "He achieved this through self-learning and no coaching," his father Sankara Subramanian who works as a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) with the Southern Railway told DT Next. His mother Subbulakshmi is a housewife and brother is a final year BTech student at IIITM Gwalior. Soorya said his goal was AIR 1 but the exams were tough. His aim is to get a medical seat at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, and become a cardiologist or neurologist." Soorya also secured 99.9% in the JEE mains.

    A press release from the National Testing Agency (NTA) said 22.09 lakh candidates appeared for the exam across the country and 12. 36 lakh qualified. Of the qualified, 5.14 lakh are male, 7. 22 lakh are female and six belong to the third gender.

    The top score of this year’s NEET is 686 out of 720. A total of 73 students secured between 651 and 686 this year. Candidates who secured between 601 and 650 were 1,259. And 10,658 students scored between 551 and 600.

    The exam was conducted at 5,468 centres across 552 cities in the country and 14 cities abroad on May 4.

    At national level, Rajasthan's Mahesh Kumar has topped the NEET-UG, while Utkarsh Awadhiya from Madhya Pradesh has bagged the second rank, the NTA announced on Saturday. Maharashtra's Krishang Joshi bagged the third rank.
