Mobile and internet technology have made it easier to work from home. The companies are also on the lookout for trusted and valued employees to work from home. There are quite a few benefits of working from home. You will be more comfortable. There are people who use their kitchen tables to get a large amount of work done for the day. You can even complete your work from the neighbouring coffee shop or while travelling. The location doesn’t matter anymore. It saves money for everyone and, personally, for you.
You can save on your commute and other expenses. It is a big advantage to make one’s own schedule of work — you can fix your own time as long as you meet your deadlines. It provides an opportunity to develop your innate talent and get a job of your wish and convenience. Often, people are afraid that they would be left out or become lonely due to work from home. But usually the opposite happens. You can devote the time for socialising, join your friends’ or relatives’ birthday celebrations and even organise family events in a better manner. If you are a mother, you can spend more time with your kids and get involved in their activities. The other advantages are — it helps working parents to attend to their children’s responsibilities, physically-challenged could handle things better in a familiar place, higher productivity because less time in commuting ensures not getting tired of traffic or travel, less stress and low sickness levels, even if you are a bit unwell it could be handled with the rest. Saving on office space is seen as one of the major incentives even for the employers. There are some disadvantages too.
Working from home only suits self–disciplined people. If you are not one, it would turn out to be a fiasco. Barring the IT industry, it is difficult to monitor performance and give quality, thus leading to skills and quality deterioration, initial costs could be higher depending on the job. For example, if you are working for a textile industry, the costs of setting up the machines and adapting to the environment of such work at home turn out to be expensive. Jobs in insurance companies, consumer product firms, customer service, recruiting, sales, writing, proofreading, tele and online marketing, creative and technical services, transcriptionists, survey analysts companies are available.
The salaries are negotiable depending on the work and hours one invests. More importantly, you have to be cautious on terms and conditions. Avoid fictitious e-mails of people and companies that wish to hire you. Remember! No company asks you to deposit money to get started unless it is connected to the selling of products.
Being a Commerce graduate, you will be flooded with lots of online and work-at-home job offers. If you wish to take up some particular job of your interest, you could also pursue a short-term course and then get into a career related to it.
Self–discipline is the key to working from home and it suits for people who wish to work independently without any supervision. It even paves the way to earn more than your counterparts working in a structured office.
