Citizen Connect: Mylapore residents, plagued by storm water drain work, get better ramps now
An inspection was carried out by the officials of Greater Chennai Corporation on Monday at PS Sivasamy Salai, following DT Next ’s reportage on the pitiable state of the residents, who have been forced to stay without using their bathrooms or toilets for more than 10 days.

DT Next had also highlighted the shabby condition of the temporary ramps, which was accounted for and better ramps were installed. A senior Corporation official said, “The inspection was carried out by various officials and the ramp facility has been improved. Earlier, the ramps did not have a proper hand rail but now, we have added it to ensure residents can cross safely.”
The official added that drainage and water connections will be restored to those houses, which are currently suffering without this crucial amenity.
61-year-old AMK Sai, a resident, who has been shuttling between his residence and that of his sister’s in Velachery, is hoping that the work will begin soon. “The officials promised that the drainage and water line will be fixed within the next few days. However, even till late Tuesday evening, no effort has been taken to fix the drainage line,” added the senior citizen, hoping that the officials will keep their word.
The Corporation has also pulled up the contractor, directing the agency to wrap up the work at the earliest. The senior official added, “The contractor has been asked to finish work on the 130-meter stretch that is dug up within the next two weeks. After this, the pits will be closed. Then, the work will be taken up in smaller stretches and residents given ample warning before it recommences in other parts of the road.
