Selfie with statue: Lion wins admirers
Reporters – who often get into the habit of noticing even the minute details – usually end up seeing bizarre situations unfolding before their eyes, as they comb the city for stories. This reporter came across an amusing sight, when she saw a father-son duo take a selfie – with the statue of a lion.

Chennai
A drive along the Kamarajar Promenade, flanking the meandering shores of Marina beach, reveals many statues – from Kannagi to Mahatma Gandhi, which have become landmarks across the sprawling beach.
In various parts of the city, it is common to spot statues of freedom fighters or those of art forms, such as the Kalari statue, with two men engaged in the martial art form, at Cathedral Road.
However, at the point where Mayor Ramanathan Salai meets the Spurtank Road, there is an installation of a traffic median junction, where there is a statue of a fierce lion.
While crossing the spot, this journalist, who had spotted this statue many times and wondered the purpose or the ideation behind this unusual choice (thanks to the lack of an explanation board), witnessed an interesting sight.
There was hardly any traffic and this journalist spotted a man (along with his son who was barely a few years old) jumping on to the pedestal, on which the life-sized statue stands.
Within minutes, the duo is happily clicking selfies with the lion! Clearly, statues have found their admirers, after all!
