    Ministers and officials review rehabilitation work

    At the meeting, a representative from each department submitted a report on the rehabilitation and relief works being carried out by his department.

    Rural development 

    About 220 generators are kept ready to handle power situation in rain-hit villages of Cuddalore. Power supply has been restored in 635 panchayats so far.

    DRD Agency

    The agency has appointed more than 100 officials including three district project directors and 10 executive engineers for the rehabilitation process. Food packets are being provided thrice a day to about 32,000 people in the inundated villages. A census is being conducted to ascertain the number of schools, anganwadi centres and panchayat schools that are damaged. 

    The agency is also taking measures to create awareness among the people about the spread of dengue fever. 

    Highways 

    The Highways Department has renovated 33 roads affected by heavy rains across Cuddalore district apart from repairing a bridge.

    Electricity Board 

    The power problems of five municipalities have been solved even as works are taken up on a war footing to fix the rest. Certain inundated areas will receive electricity soon after the rain water is drained.

    TWAD Board 

    The board has been implementing about 14 drinking water schemes in the district. Among these, problems in six schemes were solved while the board would work on the other schemes after electricity is fixed.

    Public health

    The department conducted 136 medical camps on November 11, 12 and 13 benefiting 15,183 people. 

    Animal Husbandry  The 121 veterinary teams set up by the department are carrying out inspection in the rain-hit areas to vaccinate the cattle and 85,111 cattle have been immunised till date by these teams while the other sick animals are being treated in the camps.
