‘Huge gap in demand and supply in logistics space’
Sadhanandhan N, head-expansion of Porter, an aggregator for intra-city pickups and deliveries that launched its services in the city on Wednesday, talks about the demand for structuring the unregulated good delivery service industry

Chennai
Is there a growing demand for goods delivery services especially with a host of e-commerce portals? Yes indeed. There are a lot of inefficiencies in the logistics space and a huge gap in supply and demand of goods carriers in the market. With our current lifestyle none of us have time to wait in queue to get mini-trucks to transport goods. Similarly, the e-commerce portals thrive on delivering various products at doorstep in minimum time. It helps to get local truck owners to a single platform. The present goods carrier market is highly unregulated.
What are your biggest hurdles in structuring the unregulated industry?
Different demographics, route planning, identifying customers and target audiences such that the cost is minimised would be the challenges. Adapting in different cities at different points of time also needs attention. While the e-commerce portals and SMEs are our biggest target segment, we also have individual clients availing our services in various cities to shift from one place to other. Customer repetition is another area that needs attention in the space.
Why did you choose Chennai to launch your services?
We were running Porter in pilot phase for a few months and received great response from Chennaiites. So we decided to launch our services. In next six months, we plan to launch in five cities.
