    Police said Dharamaraj (38), a provision store owner, had gone to Salem to attend a marriage on Tuesday. When he returned on Thursday, he was shocked to find the balcony door broke open and the valuables in the bureau missing. 

    Based on a complaint from Dharmaraj, the Kodungaiyur police have registered a case. In another break-in at Anna Nagar, 24 sovereigns and Rs 31,000 in cash were stolen from the house of one Johnson. Anna Nagar police are investigating. 

    Two bike-borne two youths who attempted to snatch a gold chain from a woman at S M Salai, near Valasarawalkam were caught by the public and handed over to the police on Wednesday. The duo was identified as Vineeth Kumar (19) and Rajesh Kumar (18). 

    In another case of cellphone charger blast, a woman had a narrow escape, but the bed on which she was sleeping was completely gutted at her house in Nerkundram on Wednesday. Janet (42) of Nerkundram, had put her phone on charge and had gone to bed. 

    Suddenly, the charger exploded and the bed was reduced to ashes, but she escaped.
