Despite the silence from DMK and DMDK, who are the only two options available to them after the AIADMK had turned its back on them, a perturbed Tamil Nadu Congress has sought the help of its national vice president Rahul Gandhi, who responded to its distress call by calling them for a meeting in New Delhi on February 11.

Congress sources told DT Next that Rahul has summoned former ministers, and incumbent and past TNCC presidents for the meeting in which the party’s options, particularly the likelihood of stitching up an alliance with the DMK again. Also on the agenda is the possibility of going it alone. “Rahul will take the call. If need be, the TNCC delegation will meet Soniaji,” party sources added.

“The DMK remains guarded in its response. They are keen on getting Vijayakanth on board first. Kalaignar recently said that they would not spurn Congress either. We are confident that by wooing DMDK, we can convince the DMK and form a tripartite alliance. High command’s intervention will improve our chances,” said a state Congress senior revealed.
