Giving the filter kaapi a new twist
Chennai Coffee Club, which was launched in Nilgiris in Velachery on Sunday, looks at taking the most soughtafter beverage to a wider audience. K Srinivasan, Marketing Head of the brand, says that the venture by women duo Malathi Subramaniam and Uma Srinivasan, hopes to add to the coffee craze.

Chennai
With so many coffee outlets in the city, what prompted you to start another one?
The market for coffee has been growing and the market for South Indian filter coffee, specifically, has been increasing. Chennai Coffee Club will predominantly focus on pure authentic filter coffee and a few variants of tea. This apart, the outlet will also sell cold beverages and some lip-smacking snacks. The menu list will include some great sandwiches — both grilled and club sandwiches and some North Indian delicacies like samosas, kachodis, vada pav, pav bhaji etc. The great South Indian accompaniment with coffee like podi idlies, kuzhi paniyaram (sweet and spicy) and podi uthappam will also feature in the menu. The Mexican specialty cheesy nachos and wraps will make the menu list extremely appealing and appetising for the customers.
Who is your target group?
It is a false notion that filter coffee has takers among the elders. Even youngsters today are into filter coffee. We want to cater to all of them. That is why even our accompaniments and snacks includes small podi dosais and podi uthappams for the elderly. Then there are the youngsters who want to catch up with a friend over a cup of filter coffee and samosa or kachodis.
What are your expansion plans?
We are looking at launching eight outlets by the end of the year and will move to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune next year.
