HC: Consider Netaji’s b’day as a national holiday
The Madras High Court has directed the Centre to consider a plea to declare Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary as a national holiday every year

Justice MM Sundresh and Justice S. Vimala said, “The services rendered by the late leader Nethaji to freedom struggle does not require any elaboration. However, the matter has to be decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Therefore, we do not propose to go into the merits of the case and merely direct the ministry to pass appropriate order on the same within a period of eight weeks.”
The bench also directed the petitioner to give a copy of the representation within a period of two weeks to the Home Ministry. The petitioner K K Ramesh, Managing Trustee, Tamil Nadu Centre for Public Interest Litigation had submitted that every Indian citizen wants to honour Netaji for the sacrifice he had done for India’s independence and accordingly the Centre should raise memorials for Netaji and declare his birthday as a national holiday.
