Mother and son, disabled woman, robbed in different incidents in the city

A two-member team of robbers targeted motorists near Tambaram and stole their valuables. In another incident in the same area, a knife-wielding youth forcefully entered the house of a 65-year-old woman at MKB Nagar and took away her gold chain, gold rings and Rs. 5000 cash. Police said Deivanai (65), a resident of Senkundram was attacked by a gang of two when she and her son Balasubramanian (38) were returning home after attending prayers at a temple.
When they reached Tiruneermalai, a duo on a two-wheeler blocked their way and attacked Deivanai with a knife. She suffered a cut on her ear. The duo also snatched their mobile phones. They took away around 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery of the woman.
Deivanai was later treated at a nearby hospital. In another incident near Tambaram, a lorry driver was waylaid at knifepoint and robbed, presumably by the same gang who attacked Deivanai. Police said Subhash, a native of Villupuram, was going to Koyambedu market had stopped his lorry near Kannadapalayam, near Tambaram to relieve himself and when he was returning to the driving seat, the duo threatened him at knifepoint and took away Rs. 6,000 in cash and his mobile phone.
Vanakkam Mary (55), a physically challenged woman and resident of Shastry Nagar, MKB Nagar was robbed at knifepoint inside her house. Police said Mary was alone at home when the robber entered the house. He threatened the woman and asked her to part with the valuables. The robber then took away 5.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery, Rs. 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the house.
