Chennai
Sources said that CISF officials on suspicion intercepted a Malaysia-bound air passenger at the airport here on Friday. During a subsequent check of his baggage, officials found banned Alprazolam drug worth Rs 11 lakh. Aprazolam is used to treat panic disorders.
The passenger during inquiries identified himself as Wasib Khan Liyakath Ali. Totally, 10 packs of the banned drug, besides Indian and Malaysian currency, were found in his possession, airport officials said. Ali was later handed over to Narcotics Control Bureau for further action, they said, adding the seized drug was valued around Rs 11 lakh.
On several occasions in the past, party drugs were seized in huge quantities. Following media reports claiming that smugglers were finding Chennai as an easy point to move the narcotics into the country, officials heightened vigil and curbed the movement of drugs.
