Stalker harasses transgenders
Members of the transgenders’ association in Chennai approached the city commissioner of police on Friday and lodged a complaint seeking action against a person calling on the mobile numbers of transgenders in the city and sexually harassing them

Chennai
The transgenders said that even elderly transgenders were not spared by the accused, identified as Dharma.
The transgenders decided to take it up with the police commissioner when their complaint at a local police station did not get any response. The group members even had picked him up and beaten him once, but he did not stop his harassment.
“He has been doing it for the last two years and many of us just ignored it. However, many of our members, especially Vaishanavi, who is better known as city’s first transgender auto driver, were highly offended by his action. We do not know how he has got hold of the numbers of transgenders.
At a meeting we realised that he has been calling almost all of us,” Jaya, general manager of Sahodaran, told DT Next.
She said the elderly transgenders were called on their mobile phones regularly and abused. “We organised a meeting (on Thursday) where all the members recounted the harassment by the accused. So we decided to petition the police commissioner and the police have assured action against the culprit,” she added.
Squad nabs pimps:
The Anti-Vice Squad of the Central Crime Branch of city police on Friday arrested notorious pimp Haribabu (34) and his associate Devi (33) and rescued a young girl forced into prostitution. Police raided an apartment at Jayamurthy Nagar Annexe at Kathirvedu and arrested the touts.
Police said Haribabu and Devi had been forcing young women into prostitution after offering them chance to act in cinema and serials or jobs in multinational companies. They made the victims stay in apartments and bungalows and then forced them into flesh trade.
Police said the gang had exploited several such women for several years and had been arrested in the past. The rescued girl has been sent to the government women’s home.
