SCERT to educate teachers in counselling
In an attempt to train teachers from government and its aided schools in counselling students and facilitate them to help students get their stress relieved, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will soon come up with a manual to educate teachers in counselling

The manual will have the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, how teachers need to passionately handle students, attributes of a counsellor and ways to counsel students.
SCERT director V.C. Rameswara Murugan said that a child faces lot of challenges when he grows up and a teacher needs to play dual role of teacher as well as a counsellor.
“Our manual will even have a chapter about crisis counselling. For example, if a child loses one of his parents or gets affected in a natural calamity, teachers ought to be kind while counselling students to bring them out of trauma.
“Teachers will also motivate students to transform their failure into success,” he added. The Council plans to distribute the manual to over 50,000 teachers in government and government aided schools in the state soon.
Meanwhile, SCERT had recently conducted training programme for teachers from government and its aided high school, higher secondary schools in the flood affected districts.
“We are training teachers in such a manner that they can help students to take the board exam inations without much stress, especially owing to the recent floods,” Murugan said.
