Cops pulled up for shoddy probe into kidnap case
The Madras High Court has rapped the police for shoddy probe in the kidnap of a minor girl at Chinna Salem in Villupuram District.

Chennai
A division bench comprising Justice M Jaichandran and Justice S Nagamuthu, which summoned the Kachirapalayam inspector directed him to re-open the case after slamming him for closing the FIR as false, when the kidnap had actually transpired. The bench also directed the inspector to find the girl and produce her before the court on March 11, 2016.
The matter relates to a complaint filed by V Radha, a construction worker, about his daughter, who was missing since November 29, 2015. He further submitted in his habeas corpus plea that he had informed the police about his suspicion on Ravindran, a married person, who had met his daughter on several occasions.
But the police on pursuing the complaint closed the case stating that the person against whom the suspicion had been raised was not the kidnapper and that she was kidnapped by another person.
Lambasting the police inspector, the bench in its order said, “We are not satisfied with the status report filed by the police inspector who is present before us wherein he has stated that he has closed the case as false; Whereas the fact remains that even according to his own investigation, the offence of kidnapping has been committed, but the kidnapper is not the person against whom the petitioner had suspicion. Therefore, we direct the Inspector of Police to reopen the investigation, take expeditious steps to secure the minor girl and produce her before this court.”
