    Burglar duo arrested, 40 sovereigns of gold seized

    The city police on Saturday arrested two notorious burglars and recovered 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery.

    A special police team formed to crack the case of a burglary at the house of Anand Narayanan, a resident of Murthy Street, West Mambalam, arrested Marimuthu (24), resident of MGR Nagar, and Rajesh (24), resident of Kundrathur, during a vehicle check at Postal Colony Cross Street. Police said the duo are accused in similar cases of house break in Kumaran Nagar and Velachery police limits. 

    Anand Narayanan had lodged a complaint with the Ashok Nagar police on February 19, alleging that his house was burgled on February 18 and 62.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from the house. On the instructions of city commissioner of police T K Rajendran, a special team was formed to investigate the case. Police recovered the CCTV footage from a private building near the house of Anand Narayanan and zeroed in on two youngsters.

    When the team was conducting a vehicle check on Saturday, they came to the spot on a two wheeler and seeing the police tried to escape from the area. Police team chased and caught them. During interrogation, the duo confessed to have committed the burglary. Police sources said that they will demand the custody of the accused to question them on other thefts.
