The park, which will be open from 5 am to 7 pm, also has a jogging/ walking track, angling and boating facilities as well as a multimedia centre. A consultant involved with the restoration process said that all the safety protocols are in place.

“The angling area will be open only to anglers, because it involves throwing the track, which can cause injuries if not careful,” said the official, adding that the maintenance of the park has been outsourced. Residents around the lake are happy to get a leisure spot right in the middle of the city.

Nina, a resident of an apartment complex in the vicinity, said, “My friends and I are planning to come here for our daily jog, since we stay nearby.”

Mohan Kumar, a quality analyst, said, “This is such a nice leisure space and if it is maintained well, this can become a popular tourist spot.”

Social worker, Khaleel Nisar Ahmed, however, was unhappy about the entrance fees.

“There is no concession for students and many people from poorer families cannot afford the entrance fee. Moreover, angling, where the fish are caught and then released, only causes torture to these animals and should not be allowed,” he said.
