Helping stray animals quench their thirst
G Arun Prasanna, founder of People For Cattle in India (PFCI), talks about the Water Bowl Challenge 2016, an initiative to help animals and birds handle the summer heat.

Chennai
How can people help animals during summer?
Summer in Chennai is bad and we have seen dogs and cows drinking from sewage and stagnated water. When we do not drink such unhygienic water then why should animals and birds. During summer, we also see cases of birds collapsing because of dehydration. What people can do is, simply place a bowl of water outside their houses.
What is the Water Bowl Challenge all about?
Our main aim is to place as many water bowls as possible in the city through the challenge. We will be distributing these water bowls that people have to place outside their houses. They then have to take pictures of animals and birds drinking from that bowls, post it on social media and tag PFCI. The jury will decide the best picture and the winner will be awarded.
How has the response been yet?
This will be the third year of the challenge. Last year, the response was great and we received support from celebrities like Sibiraj and Alisha Abdullah. The details of this year’s challenge will be out soon and we are expecting support and participation from the entire city.
