In yet another effort to make Chennai city free of open defecation, Kerala-based Eram Scientific that has already constructed about 183 e-toilets in 91 locations in the city has launched an Android based mobile app on Monday.

“The application will provide details on how they operate, usage instructions, location and the information on facilities such as napkin vending machines,” K Anvar Sadath, CEO of the organisation said and added that they will also assist in construction of more e-toilets in the city.

E-toilets having in-built cleaning mechanism is unmanned and ensures that it stays clean. It is also eco-friendly as it is programmed to flush 1.5 litres of water after three minutes of usage or 4.5 litres if the usage is longer and a complete wash down after five persons use the facility.

Moreover, it is also energy saving as the censor prompts to switch on the light inside the toilet only when a person enters the toilet.

“Unlike in other cities, users in Chennai city can use it for free,” a spokesperson of Eram Scientific told DTNext . According to him, Chennai corporation has provided close to Rs 4.5 lakh per e-toilet. The organisation operates around 1,600 e-toilets in about 19 states in the country.

Corporation Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said that with 183 e-toilets installed in the city, Chennai now has more e-toilets than any other city in India.
