As per the CBSE’s Chennai regional office, around 13,500 class XII students and around 38,000 Class 10 students from Tamil Nadu had registered to take the examinations this year. Class 10 and 12 students from 512 schools across Tamil Nadu will write the exams at 132 centres.

Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram, which is one of the centres, had eager parents waiting for their children on the premises. Some of them were waiting since the morning. “As a parent, I was equally nervous. I’m confident that my son will perform well in all subjects.

However, I am little concerned about Chemistry. The students lost a lot of time during the flood holidays last year. That valuable time could have been utilised for revision at school,” said Bagavathy, mother of a Class XII student.

At around 1.30 p.m. the students walked out of their exam halls and almost everyone seemed happy. They discussed the question paper and some even guessed their scores. “I’ll get above 90 per cent,” said a student while hugging her father.

Tanay Agarwal of Sindhi Model School said it was a good start. “The paper was a bit lengthy. I managed to allocate 15 minutes to revise the answers. Now that the paper went off well, I look forward to preparing for the Physics exam.” Class 12 students will write their exams from March 1 to April 22 and candidates from Class 10 will sit for exams from March 1 to March 28.

“The next exam is on Saturday, so I have enough time to prepare. But we have only three days to revise before the Chemistry exam. We have four days before Maths and 11 days to prepare for Computer Science, our last paper,” said Sharan, Chinmaya Vidyalaya This year, the number of Class 12 candidates writing the exam across India registered an increase of 2.65 per cent whereas the rise was 9.12 per cent in Class 10.

A total of 1,921 Class XII students and 2,860 Class X candidates have registered under the differently abled category all over India this year. The first phase of CBSE tele-counselling, which was opened on February 1 would remain open till April 22. Students can dial toll free number:1800118004 from any part of the country to the CBSE helpline.
