First rail auto hub inaugurated
As announced by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in the Budget, India’s first rail auto hub was inaugurated at Walajabad near Kancheepuram on Tuesday.

The Walajabad station is located 12-40 km from the major automobile hubs of Oragadam, Sriperumpudur and Singaperumal Kovil and houses the manufacturing facilities for Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, Daimler Chrysler and other companies.
This hub would cater to over 10 lakh four-wheelers that are produced per annum in these areas and would act as an ideal distribution centre for Tata and Honda. Phase-I will be completed by March this year and phase-II is due for completion within the next four months.
