‘Go by norms on renting grounds’

The petitioner Vollys Club had submitted in his PIL that the ground is active with sporting activities. Under such circumstances, they were shocked to see an advertisement near the playground about a food festival being scheduled to be held in the ground on March 5 and 6.

Also, submitting that the playground should be used only for sporting activities, Vollys club contended that Chennai Corporation and its officers are obligated by law to maintain playgrounds.

The first bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh, said “Since the playground is being used only during the weekend, the petitioner should be informed about the existing norms if any and if it does not exist, necessary norms must be followed so as to not disturb the sports activities.”
