Victim to prepare thief’s portrait
The city police have formed four special teams to crack the major robbery that took place at Injambakkam during the early hours of Saturday, where burglars looted 100 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 60,000 in cash. Police suspect the hand of a local gang as the accused conversed in Tamil while committing the crime.

Police don’t have any concrete evidence that can help pinpoint to the culprits. Police could not lift a single fingerprint from the crime scene as the culprits wore gloves. They also avoided being caught on CCTV cameras. Police are trying to track the three mobile phones that were stolen by the robbers.
Meanwhile sources told DT Next that the actual gold that was looted form the house could be much greater than 100 sovereigns and the robbers had taken away about Rs 5 lakh. The police however refuted this claim.
“We are conducting investigations with local gangs and established burglars in the state who adopt the same modus operandi. We are trying to locate these history-sheeters as it is evident that the gang was a local one. The case will be cracked within a day or two,” a senior police official said.
Police have approached Vasuki, wife of Lakshmi Narayanan, to draw a portrait of one of the accused who chose not to mask his face. Vasuki is an established artist and police believe that she could help them identify the accused.
“Vasuki is yet to recovered from shock of being robbed at knife point,” the official added.
Vasuki collapsed soon after the robbers left and had to be taken to a nearby hospital. The family had informed the police that the robbers conversed in Tamil. “We believe that at least one gang member could have been known to the family or the perpetrators prepared well before striking,” the official added.
