How has public participation increased since the campaign took shape in 2012?

Our recent campaign spearheaded by actress Sakshi Agarwal saw overwhelming participation from people across social strata and age groups. There has been a steady increase in awareness especially amongst the younger lot as is evident from our weekly campaigns. To attract more support, we’re going to have a celebrity campaigner every month from now because star power adds immensely to such movements.

What has been the most rewarding experience of the campaign?

Our biggest success yet, perhaps has been in educating, empowering, and equipping the beach vendors to keep their surroundings clean. More often than not, it is they who are blamed for the litter in the beaches. But the truth is that a majority of them have taken a conscious effort of maintaining the area clean and some of them also encourage the visitors not to litter.

How does one become a part of the group?

Whoever comes to Marina and wants to do anything to make it clean and beautiful will be called an Angel of Marina. They just need to tag along during our weekly programmes which will be put up on our Facebook page. In the coming months, we are also going to equip schools, colleges and neighbourhood societies, so that they can hold their own campaigns in their surrounding and do their bit without actually waiting for someone like us to start a movement.
