NIIT.tv, as part of NIIT, will now offer support to students pursuing B.Tech and M.Tech degree programmes by delivering sessions by expert faculty of SASTRA by broadcasting them on the Internet learning portal, which has 1.7 lakh registered users from 142 countries.
Initially, programmes on Biomedical Nanotechnology, Biosensors and Control Systems will be available and soon expand to other disciplines including coaching for competitive exams like GATE, etc. Dr S Swaminathan, Dean (sponsored research) at SASTRA and head of the new initiative, said that the university’s decision to leverage the online platform will transform conventional teaching-learning mechanisms.
“This makes it inclusive, affordable and accessible,” he said, adding that the initiative was also aligned with the Union Government’s digital drive and HRD ministry’s national MOOC mission. Learners get a multi-modal digital platform, free tutorials, live synchronous classes, e-books and discussion forums among other facilities.
