Actor Jayaprakash bags Gollapudi Award for directorial debut
Most Tamil cinema buffs would clearly remember actor Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan from the 2015 super hit Yennai Arindhaal. He played Thala Ajith’s friend in the film.

The actor then turned director with his film Lens, a thriller that looks at the dark side of social media, for which he will now be honoured with the 19th Gollapudi Srinivas National Award 2015. His film was chosen from over 33 nominations across the country in many languages like Hindi, Malayalam, English, Assamese, Bengali and others.
“It’s a film about how a virtual interaction between two strangers turns into a hostage drama. Social media gives one the impression that they can always disconnect from it and be free of consequences. But it’s actually an addiction. People are forced to sit through things they do not want to see or hear. My film looks into one such situation,” says Jayaprakash. He also plays the protagonist in the film. The film shows the lead actors switching between multiple languages English, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi.
The award is an annual affair, given out to the best debut directors, in the memory of Telugu director Gollapudi Srinivas who passed away when he was directing his first film. It will be presented to Jayaprakash Radhakrishnan on August 12, 2016.
