For extra charge, get colour EPIC cards by post
The Election Commission will send colour voter ID cards through registered post for those willing to pay the postage charge, TN chief electoral officer (CEO) Rajesh Lakhoni told DTNext on Friday

Chennai
Stating that the three e-seva centres outsourced through a vendor were being fully utilised, he said the registered post move would ensure that people did not have to come to centres to collect ID cards. But the scene in the districts is different.
Contrary to Lakhoni’s statement on Thursday that nearly 10,000 voters had applied for colour EPIC cards at taluk, RDO and collector’s offices in districts in the last two days, district voters were still in the dark about this facility. Triuchy Consumer and Service organisations president N. Sekaran said he was in the dark about this scheme.
“When I spoke to a Revenue official, I was informed that daily 500 people were paying for this facility. Their cards would reach them in a fortnight. But, there has been no publicity about this,” he added.
With Chennai having only 16 of the state’s 234 constituencies, one wonders whether only less than 10,000 voters would have applied for colour cards over two days in the 218 constituencies if the move had been publicised.
At Rameswaram, the situation was different. “There has been no publicity about colour voter ID cards being issued to local voters” said Balakumar, a local. However, the three e-seva centres will function till April 15, officials said.
