    Braindead’s organs save three lives

    A 52-year-old braindead patient has saved three lives through his organs donated by his family. K Ramaswamy, who was working in a private firm, had a fall a few weeks back and was admitted at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre. After bleeding in the brain, he suffered a cardiac arrest.

    K Ramaswamy was declared brain dead on March 23, his wife Manimekalai decided to donate his organs.

    The liver was transplanted on a 48-year-old patient from Ponneri by Dr Mohammed Rela and team and the kidneys were transplanted on a 55-year old patient and a 40-year old patient — both from Chennai by Dr K Natarajan and team. 

    Meanwhile, at SIMS, Vadapalani, a 28-year-old farmer Doraiswamy from Kadapa, Andhra, who met with an accident, was declared brain dead on March 24. His wife Bhandavi decided to donate his organs. 

    Upon harvesting, the liver and one kidney were transplanted at the hospital, while the other kidney and eyes were sent to other city hospitals.
