Burglars on a spree, as over 56 sovereigns of gold robbed in city
The house of a 72-year-old woman who has been living alone at B Block, Anna Nagar East, was burgled and 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 35,000 in cash were reportedly stolen.

According to police, Jayanthi has been staying alone at her residence after the demise of her husband Joshua. Her both sons are employed abroad. On Wednesday evening, Jayanthi locked her house and went for shopping.
When she returned around 10 pm, she found the cash and valuables kept inside the house missing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry to the house.
Police suspect that somebody could have used a duplicate key to open the door and would have looted the valuables. Anna Nagar police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
Madambakkam burglary
In a similar incident, burglars broke into a locked house at Madambakkam and looted 27 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 250 grams of silver and Rs 10,000 in cash on Thursday.
Police said Jayaraj, a resident of Madampakkam had locked his house and went for work on Thursday. When he returned home at night, he found his front door lock broke open and the valuables kept inside the house missing. Jayaraj then lodged a complaint with the Guduvanchery police.
Police suspect the hands of a local gang, which had been familiar with the office timings of Jayaraj, behind the burglary. Police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
