Political bigwig and former Rajya Sabha member P Kannan who quit the Congress party and joined the AIADMK recently was allotted the Raj Bhavan constituency. He began his electioneering at the Subrayapillai Street here.

All the sitting members who were permitted to contest from their own constituencies and the other candidates announced by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister began canvassing in their respective constituencies.

Kick-starting his poll campaign in the constituency after worshipping at a local Amman temple, Kannan, who quit Congress and joined AIADMK on February 14, told reporters there would be an integrated development if AIADMK is voted to power.

“Puducherry will witness faster development and all sections of people will be taken care of without exception,” he said.

Kannan said the problem of unemployment among youth would be tackled through effective measures. Asserting that no section of people would be left in the lurch as a detailed developmental plan would be implemented, he alleged that law and order was in a shambles in Puducherry.

He recalled how he had taken steps to bring in Goondas Act to ensure law and order while he was Home Minister in the 1990's.
