Removal of encroachment ordered
The Madras high court has directed the National Highways Authority of India to clear all encroachments found on the highway from Udayampatti to Thulukkanur in Salem district, within a month.

Chennai
The first bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh while disposing of a Public Interest Litigation in this regard, said “We consider it appropriate to direct the National Highways Authority of India to consider the representation of the petitioner and take action in accordance with law if any encroachments are found on the highway. The needful be done within one month.”
The petitioner P Selvarajan had contended that the National Highway starting from Udayampatti to Thulukkanur for a length of 7.5 km was a two-lane road. However, the sides of the highway have been encroached, reducing the width of the highway by 10 to 20 metres, thereby obstructing free flow of traffic.
The petitioner also submitted that he made a representation in this regard on June 16, 2014 followed by a reminder on October 16, 2014, but till date no action had come forth.
