After alliance talks between the TMC and AIADMK did not fructify, GK Vasan started negotiations with the PWF and brought to a successful end.

Expectation was running high that the PWF’s prominent leaders like Vaiko, Thol. Thirumavalavan, G Ramakrishnan and R Mutharasan would meet Vasan for formally joining and, as expected, the quartet came to the TMC’s office around 3.20 pm. Vasan received them, after which they held a closeddoor meeting. The flags of Vasan’s party fluttered and the party office witnessed scenes of joy and dance by the cadre on Saturday afternoon.

TMC cadre raised slogans after the PWF leaders reached the TMC office and media persons waited for a press meet. However, the leaders after a 20-minute meeting left the TMC office without providing any hints to the media.

Later, the PWF leaders along with Vasan went to meet DMDK leader Vijayakant at his party headquarters for sealing a deal on sharing seats.

A TMC source said the party had sought 30 seats from the PWF and they were in the hope of getting that number. “No doubt, TMC’s joining in the fold of PWF will add an impetus to the alliance’ prospects and this will be seen during the coming election. Further, the TMC has a sizable number of supporters in the state and there is a strong possibility of the party winning the prescribed seats,” said a party cadre.

It may be noted that the talks between the ruling AIADMK and TMC did not see any rapprochement on Thursday as the former did not budge from its stand that candidates of all allies should face the election on its ‘Two leaves’ symbol though TMC had the coconut farm (thenanthoppu) symbol allotted by the Election Commission.

MDMK chief Vaiko is said to be behind the scenes in bringing the TMC into the PWF group.

Number of seats allotted to each party in DMDK-PWF combine:

    • DMDK 104
    • MDMK 29
    • TMC 26
    • VCK 25
    • CPI 25
    • CPM 25
    • Total 234
