Patient receives heart from Bengaluru
Creating further public awareness about cadaver organ transplantation and what the administration could actually do to promote inter-state transfers of such organs, the Bengaluru and Chennai police got together and created an inter-state green corridor to help a dying heart patient at Global Hospital to get his heart transplanted

Chennai
Heart specialists from the Global Hospital extracted the heart of a brain dead patient in Bengaluru Apollo Hospital and with the help of police there, got it into a chartered aircraft through a specially created green corridor.
The Bengaluru police had regulated chaotic traffic over there and reserved a lane for the ambulance to move from the Apollo Hospital to the airport. The chartered aircraft took off from Bengaluru airport at 12.50 pm and landed at Chennai at 1.40 pm. “The Chennai police also created a green corridor for the team to get the organ to the hospital where a team of doctors was ready in the operation theatre.
The ambulance from Chennai airport reached Global Hospital in just 9 minutes,” a hospital source said. A Chattisgarh native who was suffering from an end-stage heart failure was selected as the recipient of the cadaver organ.
Hospital sources said the patient was on the support of a heart and lung machine at the hospital for the past three months. His heart was beyond repair and weakened further by compulsory use of the heart and lung machine for a long duration.
