Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, the priests hoisted the temple flag between the auspicious hours of 10.30 to 10.54 am with religious fervour.  Special pujas were performed to Lord Sundareswarar and Goddess Meenakshi on the occasion.

Thousands of devotees congregated at the temple to witness the flag hoisting ritual. The “Pattabishekam” (Coronation) for goddess Meenakshi would be held on April 17 and the famous  “Thirukkalyanam” (Celestial wedding) of Goddess Meenakshi Amman with lord Sundareswarar will be performed on April 19.

The celestial wedding event will be telecast live on LED screens in Masi streets around the temple and the temple authorities have made arrangements to provide wedding feast for thousands of devotees on that day.

The car festival will take place on April 20. The spectacular event of “Lord Kallazhagar entering into River Vaigai” will be held on April 22. Lakhs of devotees were expected to take part.
