An industrialist fell victim to a honey trap and lost Rs 35,000 and 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery at Kodungaiyur on Wednesday.

Chennai
Police later arrested five persons, including a woman who sweet talked Pandian (30), an industrialist based at Thondiarpet to the trap.
Police said Abhi (20), a resident of Krishnamurthy Nagar, Kodungaiyur, seduced Pandian after establishing contact with him over phone and invited him to her residence.
When Pandian went to her house, four rowdies, who were already waiting for the visitor at her residence, assaulted him and snatched the money and jewellery from him, threatening him at knife point. They then ‘assaulted’ Babu, a neighbour of Abhi, and escaped from the spot. Later, Babu went and lodged a complaint with the Kodungaiyur police station, alleging that a group of rowdies assaulted him.
Pandian, who was scared of his reputation being damaged, registered a complaint with the police alleging that a group waylaid him when he was coming in his car and robbed him of the valuables at knife point.
Police took up the investigation and arrested three youths, Maduraiveeran (26), Vinod (26) and Rajesh (26), all residents of B V Colony, Vyasarpadi. On interrogation, they told the police that Babu and Abhi had asked them to assault Pandian and rob him. Following their confession, police arrested Abhi and Babu. Another person involved in the crime is yet to be arrested.
Police said Abhi, who used to visit a shop owned by Pandian, became friendly with him. Babu and Abhi hatched a plan to make money as they thought he was affluent.
Abhi started flirting with Pandian and, on Wednesday, called him on the phone for an outing. She then invited him to her residence, saying that his family had gone out and she was alone at home.
