Food festival: Thai fest
Culinary treats from streets of Thailand

Chennai
As much as Thailand is popular for its shopping malls and exotic beaches, it is all known to be a gastronomical dream. And bringing these flavours to the city from the streets of Thailand is celebrity chef Supattra as part of the Masters of Food and Wine showcase at The Flying Elephant.
We started our meal with minced tenderloin and basil. The juicy and tender meat had a smoky flavour and the basil in this stir-fry, added raw at the end gave a double dose of its aromatic flavour. Next, we tried the spicy Thai duck salad. An intoxicating juxtaposition of flavours with lime dressing, sweet pineapple, nutty cashews and smoky duck, make this a salad of the highest order. Next in line was the lamb massaman curry. A sumptuous creamy curry with slow-cooked tender chunks of lamb and potato. We also tried the aubergine, mixed vegetables, tofu in green curry that had us licking it off our fingers. The steamed shrimp in a flavourful sauce, with glass noodles at the bottom, was a great combination of flavours.
For dessert, there are a few options but the sago with cantaloupe and coconut milk was a clear winner. The salty-sweet coconut milk with pearls of sago and the rockmelon made for a fitting finale.
The food festival is on till April 29.
