Soon after the third phase of counselling sessions began on Thursday, the 104 helpline began receiving calls from anxious students and parents, who were worried about the impact of the NEET move. Prabhudoss B, head of marketing and hospital relations, 104 and 108 helplines, says, “The students were pinning their hopes on the cut-off marks. Now with NEET, they are worried about their prospects. Apart from anxious students, even parents have been calling the helpline since Thursday.”

Over 10,000 students have availed the services of the helpline. “We will see a rise in calls closer to the declaration of exam results in the coming months,” he says.

A student said that as per the NEET schedule, the result would be declared on August 17 and admission would be over by September 30, so will this delay the admission counselling schedule for medical and engineering admission in our state thereby changing the academic calendar for the next academic year?” he asked.

Suresh, a medical aspirant, said he had prepared a lot to write the Class 12 government exam this year. Now, it would be difficult for him to prepare for the All India entrance test in a short span of time.
