‘R&D essential to take economy to greater heights’
National Board of Accreditation Member Secretary Anil Kumar Nassa said the country has made significant contribution in outsourcing of R&D talent

Presiding over the 16th Graduation Day function at Easwari Engineering College, part of the SRM Group of Institutions, here on Saturday, he said still a lot of research work has to be done in this regard. Nassa also stressed the need for strategic policy interventions, not only to strengthen engineering education, but also to facilitate government, industry and academia to evolve a strategy for engineering and science education in India.
Advising the graduates to acquire special skills in their respective fields to improve job prospects and contribute in creating a knowledge-based society to meet the increasing global competition, Nassa urged the passing-out students to follow ethical principles, while discharging their official duties and educating the society on the value of ethics. He also spoke about the importance of R and D, which has become a rudimentary step in taking the economy to greater heights towards globalisation. SRM Group of Institutions Ramapuram and Trichy campuses Chairman R Shivakumar highlighted the facilities available in the college and advised the students to make use of them to enhance their knowledge.
A total of 1,058 students received their degrees, of which, 753 were from UG stream, 305 from PG stream and four Ph.D degrees. The college principal K S Srinvasan said a total of 36 UG and PG students bagged university ranks. SRM University President P Sathyanarayanan was also present on the occasion.
