DEO takes stock of election preparedness in Chennai

The meeting assumes significance as the Chennai district has the maximum number of 16 constituencies in the state. The officials also reviewed polling booth arrangements, follow-up and security arrangements in all segments in the district. 

Further, they enquired about the present situation in the constituencies identified as sensitive and they charted out where paramilitary forces should be sent. 

A blueprint in connection with the sensitive areas was also prepared at the meeting. The Election Officer also enquired about the effective functioning of flying squads to monitor violations of Model Code of Conduct. 

According to sources, there was an in-depth discussion on the complaints received from the general public in the election control room. The DEO also asked the officials what actions have been initiated over these complaints so far. 

Additional district election officers and conveners from various election committees were also part of the meeting. 

Meanwhile, Rupesh Kumar Meena on Monday assumed office as Superintendent of Police of Erode district. He was formerly Deputy Commissioner at Anna Nagar in Chennai. 

Immediately on assuming the post, he held discussions with district police officials about the May 16 assembly election details and verified the list of candidates and constituencies in the district.
