Even as the public looked on in horror, a notorious history-sheeter was chased up the terrace of a residential building in Ayanavaram and hacked by a five-member gang wielding long knives ( aruval ) in broad daylight, on Friday.

Chennai
Karthik (28), from near Avadi, was found in a pool of blood on the terrace of a multi-storied residential building and was rushed to KMCH first and later admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government General Hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
The residents of the multi-storied building at VP Colony on Medavakkam High Road, Ayanavaram, are yet to recover from the shock. People rushed out of their homes upon seeing the gang chasing and hacking the youth on their terrace.
The gang members then walked out of the building with bloodied weapons in hand, got on to their two-wheelers and rode away.
Police said the armed gang intercepted Karthik when he reached the ESI Hospital in Ayanavaram around 11 am on Friday. Karthik was on his way to Purasawalkam from Avadi on his two-wheeler. He stopped at Otteri to meet his friends and came to Ayanavaram.
Seeing the heavily armed five-member gang, Karthik abandoned his two-wheeler, ran into a multi-storied residential building and climbed up stairs to the terrace to escape the gang. However, the men went up the terrace and hacked him multiple times.
Karthik suffered deep cut injuries and fell unconscious in a pool of blood. Presuming he was dead, the gang fled the spot.
Police said Karthik was an accused in several cases including a murder case and a rival group is suspected to be behind the attack. Police have registered a case and have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
