Campaigning in Kanyakumari for BJP candidates, Modi begun his address in Tamil by saying, En Iniya Tamil Makkale, Sagodara Sagodarigale, Vanakkam’.

He then continued with his address by claiming that for people who were reeling under poverty, development alone could change their livelihood. If people need change and development they should not vote for this or that party but for BJP alone, he said.

He also claimed that if there was one government which thinks of development of people, it is the BJP government. The party had promised in 2014 Lok Sabha election that if BJP was elected, they would develop Colachel Port that would provide employment for the youth in the district. As promised, the expansion of the Port has begun and Rs. 21,000 crore had been pumped into the project, the Prime Minister said.

This was the first time that such a large sum of money had been allotted to Kanyakumari district for a developmental project and the project once completed would bring scores of employment opportunities for the people of the district, he added.

Similarly, tourism in Kanyakumari district had been given a huge boost by the central government. The Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari highway had been broadened and tourists arriving at Thirunvananthapuram Airport would easily reach Kanyakumari.

Modi said that the people of Tamil Nadu must understand the fact that the rice that is provided to them at Rs 1 and Rs 2 is actually provided by the Centre. The Union government bears Rs 27 for a kilogram of rice. The only intent of the central government is to see people coming out poverty and “Modi is greatly happy with it” he added.

It is election time and all political parties would claim that they would implement welfare schemes for the poor but it was the central government that has been implementing several welfare schemes including providing LPG cylinder connections to 3 crore families.
