Even as 20 per cent of the polling stations in suburban assembly segments like Sholinganallur, Alandur and Tambaram in Kanchipuram districts were identified as sensitive and violence prone, polling by and large passed off peacefully in these constituencies.

The visible presence of paramilitary and police personnel in all the booths ensured that no major untoward incident transpired in these booths.
In Alandur, 28.97 percent of 390 polling stations were identified as vulnerable. Barring minor episodes, polling transpired at a steady pace. Once known for its agricultural fields, the constituency has now obtained an urban character.
Also, known for being a favourite constituency of AIADMK founder and three-time Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, were he had won from it, witnessed a stiff fight between veteran S Ramachandran of the AIADMK and former Labour Welfare Minister, TM Anbarasan of DMK. R Srinivasan of PMK, Dr S Sathyanarayan of BJP and U Chandran of DMDK are contesting the elections along with eight others.
Similarly, 116 out of the 570 polling stations set up in Sholinganallur, 117 out of the 437 polling stations in Pallavaram and 110 of the 417 polling stations in Tambaram, were identified as sensitive. But even in these constituencies polling got off to a brisk start and the voting percentage poised to cross the 70 per cent mark. However, election skirmishes lingered with fights emanating between partymen away from the booths.
