As the model code of conduct was in place for more than 75 days till the completion of election, no grievance meetings of any kind were conducted at the collectorate. After the completion of election, the district administration had rolled out an official release stating that the regular grievance day meetings would commence from Monday.

However, despite the announcement, there were no serious petitions barring a few and the Collectorate was unusually silent.

Most of the petitions were regarding personal grievances and unlike the usual scenario, there was no grievance submitted by an entire community or an entire village except one.

An official at the petitions receiving counter claimed that the grievance meeting was unusually dull. There were two petitions on education loans and one for a transfer certificate in a school. The others were for OAPs and for land patta.

The probable reason might be the soaring summer heat. Another reason could have been the sweaing-in of the new government for which the regular public might have remained glued on to their televisions, claimed the official.

While the grievance day meeting was conducted in all the districts in the south, there was no meet at the Thoothukudi Collectorate alone. Officials at Public Relations Department claimed that the District Collector had not issued orders to conduct the grievance day. The meeting might have been cancelled due to the swearing-in ceremony of the new government, claimed the officials.
