MLAs meet Collector over water, liquor shop
In a first action over public issue, the DMK MLAs of two constituencies, Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai, jointly petitioned district administration demanding the officials to desilt the water bodies that cater to the needs of the twin towns immediately.

Madurai
Tirunelveli MLA, ALS Lakshmanan, and Palayamkottai MLA, TPM Mohideen Khan, jointly submitted a petition to Collector M Karunakaran highlighting the water crisis prevailing in their constituencies and demanded the district administration to desilt water bodies immediately to tide over the situation.
Mohideen Khan, in his petition, claimed that water to Palayamkottai was supplied through Palayam Channel, but it was now filled with plants and shrubs affecting the flow. Besides this, construction debris and waste was being dumped into the channel which also add to the problem.
Hence, the district administration should take steps immediately to desilt the channel and to ensure regular supply of drinking water to residents.
Lakshmanan, in his petition, demanded the district administration to take steps to end the water woes in his constituency.
However, his main demand was to remove the liquor shop located next to his MLA office. The legislator claimed that as this liquor shop does not have a bar drunkards consume liquor in the open space next to the shop. This has been causing severe inconvenience to women, children and the general public. So, the district administration should take act instantly to remove the shop from the locality, demanded Lakshmanan.
A large number of people who had come to the Collectorate for various works were ‘surprised’ to the see the two MLAs walking into the office with a petition.
